Welcome to the latest update. We send this out to all members after PoANT Committee meetings to give a brief summary of the issues talked about at the meeting, and any other significant things that are going on.
This update covers both our January and February meetings, and comes with apologies for my tardiness!
It is usually brief, and not fancy, but hopefully keeps members ‘in the picture’, and of course we welcome any comments or questions or ideas.
Members are welcome at any time to join any of the projects or campaigns.
For more information about anything, please contact Pat Netschitowsky.
Election Forum

Together with the Port Adelaide Residents Environment Protection Group (PAREPG), PoANT has put lots of work into organising this Forum. As well as several members of our Committee, PoANT member Jana Edwards joined the organising group and did a great job, particularly with inviting and following up with all of the candidates. The forum was held on February 24th, and was attended by over 100 people.
It was a most successful evening.
Harts Mill Precinct
Work has started on putting together a submission for state heritage listing for the Precinct, and this is involving research and talking to people with knowledge about the history of the Mill. The working group is going to be meeting again next week.
Emporium Building, Commercial Road Port Adelaide

The Emporium building is currently for sale and there is concern for its future given its poor condition and it may be under development pressure. It is locally heritage listed and has a level of protection. We are going to ask some questions about future plans for the building.
Future Members Event
Local resident Geoff Goodfellow has written another book, and PoANT has offered to be part of launching it in the Port. It will be on Sunday 24th May, and Pat will send out details to all members in advance.
The Yelta

Shane Hockey attended the January meeting as an observer, after meeting earlier in the month with a few committee members about his concerns for the future of the Yelta.
We are going to seek clarification about the heritage status of the Yelta, and any future plans for it.
PoANT website
We are continuing to work on getting the PoANT website online. In the meantime, the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/PortofAdelaideNationalTrust) and email (PortofAdelaideNT@gmail.com) are both active and regularly monitored.
Advocacy article
Following our ‘Does Advocacy Still Work?’ Panel at last year’s AGM, Ros has been putting together some of the observations and ideas from the panel, together with some general information about how it can be effective. As one of the few National Trust branches in South Australia that have a focus on advocacy, we are thinking it is useful to have this defined and explained.
Next meeting
Our next general meeting is on Tuesday, March 17th, 2026. Expect your next members update after that.
