Harts Mill Precinct

The working group continues its task of putting together a submission for state heritage listing for the Precinct.
No further update from them at this stage.
Emporium Building, Commercial Road Port Adelaide
At this stage there is no development plan submitted, and so no indication of what could happen to the building if it is sold. It has Local Heritage status, and some interesting features such as three street frontages and parts of the building inside are close to their original condition with little updating. There is some interest by community members to apply for State Heritage listing. PoANT will continue to monitor what happens with the sale of the building, and gathering information about the history of the Emporium.
The Yelta

PoANT is sending a letter to the Minister for Education, Training and Skills about the future of the Yelta. Thanks Phil.
Future Members Event

You will all have received an invitation to attend the Port Adelaide launch of Geoff Goodfellow’s latest book. It will be on Sunday 24th May, at the Port Admiral Hotel. Please RSVP to Pat, and we look forward to seeing you there.
By the way, we currently have 59 paid up members!
Thank you all for supporting PoANT.
GMH Mosaic

While the GMH factory in Port Adelaide was demolished in 1991, the iconic logo that was part of the foyer floor inside the building was removed and has been restored by ArtLab. PoANT has maintained a watching brief on the conservation of the mosaic, and is keen to see it returned to the Port. Phil recently talked with someone from ArtLab and we are heartened to hear that the plan is to reinstate the mosaic as an integral part of the landscape around Fletchers Slip
Development Proposal for Shed 1, Fisherman’s Wharf
There was media coverage last week about a development application for 400 homes to be built at the Shed 1 site, with 15 storey towers being part of the plan.
PoANT will be seeking out more information, and details of the required consultation process. If anyone has heard more about this, please let Pat know.
PoANT Office

Thanks to the Port Adelaide Enfield Council, we are fortunate to have a temporary office and meeting space on the first storey of the Visitor Information Centre on the corner of Commercial Road and St Vincent Street. As you may have noticed, this fine building is currently covered in scaffold and is being renovated. This work will take some months, and we are currently holding our meetings at the Port Environment Centre on North Parade. Thank you to the Centre!
Next meetings
Our next general meetings are on Tuesday, May 19th and June 16th.
Expect your next update after that.
