Each year we host both our annual events and our special events.
Come an join us.
Each year in September, PoANT holds its Annual General Meeting. The AGM is an opportunity for members and others to hear what the Branch has been doing, and usually to hear from a guest speaker.
Most years PoANT awards the Rex Munn Cultural Heritage Award, which is presented on the first Sunday after May Day at the Workers Memorial in Port Adelaide. This award celebrates and remembers Rex who worked for 36 years on the wharves and was committed to social justice and redressing inequity. He had a mighty singing voice and was also a foundation member of the Port of Adelaide Branch of the National Trust. The award recognises the importance of cultural heritage and its role in change and activism.
Each year, PoANT organises several members events. These are the most recent:
On May 24th, 2026, PoANT hosted the launch of Geoff Goodfellow’s latest book, ‘Nostalgic Adelaide: poems political, cultural and social’ at the Port Admiral Hotel. It was a wonderful event with over 40 people attending. Geoff read a number of poems from his new book.
On 24 July PoANT hosted a tour of the Port River on the Maritime Museum’s atmospheric MV Archie Badenoch.
On 26 June, PoANT members attended a lecture by historian Dr Clare Parker at the State Library of SA on the rare multipanel panorama of Port Adelaide’s historic waterfront by artist Frank Hankey. The panorama was painted two years before the 1857 fire that razed a number of the Port’s buildings and industry. Clare shared the story of the multidimensional g story of Frank Hankey and his panorama. She appreciated the opportunity to tell the story to local Portonians.
